[pregnancy-specific glycoprotein] This protein has been renamed PSG1 (approved gene symbol) [pregnancy-specific beta-1 glycoprotein 1], following the identification of many other members of a pregnancy-specific family of glycoproteins found in large amounts in placenta and maternal serum of humans and rodents (Teglund et al, 1994; Thompson et al, 1990; McLellan et al, 2005). PSG1a [pregnancy-specific glycoprotein 1a] is the major variant of pregnancy-specific beta-1 glycoprotein 1 released into the circulation during pregnancy. A number of splice variants exist (see: CD66f) but their biological function is not known.
