PTGF-beta
[Placental Transforming Growth Factor-beta] This protein (112 amino acids) is identical with PDF (prostate-derived factor), MIC1 (macrophage inhibitory cytokine-1), GDF15 (growth/differentiation factor-15), and PLAB (Placental bone morphogenetic protein). It has been described independently as NAG-1 [NSAID activated gene-1] and PL74.
The gene appears to give rise to two transcripts. One (1.2 kb) is expressed highly in placenta while the longer transcript of 1.9 kb is predominant in adult skeletal muscle (Lawton et al, 1997).
