[pyrin domain-containing 2] This is the approved gene symbol for a protein identified originally by Bedoya et al (2007) as POP-2 [pyrin-only protein 2]. It contains a single pyrin domain. POP-2 is expressed principally in peripheral blood leukocytes. POP-2 is a negative regulator of NF-kappa-B activity that may influence the assembly of complexes of proteins containing pyrin domains such as PYPAF1. POP-2 blocks the formation of functional IL1-beta processing inflammasomes.
