(approved gene symbol) [Pregnancy zone protein]; in databanks this protein is known also as CPAMD6 [C3 and PZP-like alpha-2-macroglobulin domain-containing protein 6]. This secreted protein is a major pregnancy-associated plasma protein found at extremely high levels in late pregnancy plasma (Smithies, 1959; Folkersen et al, 1984; Petersen CM et al, 1990). The protein shows strong homology (70 % sequence identity) to alpha-2-Macroglobulin (Sottrup-Jensen et al, 1984; Devriendt et al, 1989; 1991).
