abbr. PSF (a term with multiple meanings). This protein of 17.5 kDa has been purified from the venom of Gila monster (Heloderma suspectum). It stimulates amylase secretion from dispersed rat pancreatic acinar cells more efficiently than CCK-8, bombesin, carbachol and secretin (Dehaye et al, 1984; Vandermeers et al, 1984). Dehaye et al (1984) have reported that PSF possesses phospholipase A2 activity towards phosphatidylcholine. Gomez et al (1989) have reported the existence of five increasingly anionic variants of Ca2+-dependent phospholipase A2 in the venom.
