gene symbol: Pth4. this neurohormone has been identified in zebrafish (Suarez-Bregua P et al, 2017, 2017). It is not found in eutherian mammals, including humans. The hormone is expressed specifically in neurons of the hypothalamus and appears to be a central neural regulator of bone development and mineral homeostasis by regulating the expression of factors involved in phosphate homeostasis. Ablation of post-mitotic neurons expressing Pth4 leads to impaired mineralization of craniofacial bones without affecting cartilage development (Suarez-Bregua P et al, 2017).
