abbr. often PDL cells. These cells are found in the periodontal ligament, a connective tissue located between the cementum and the alveolar bone, which is part of the periodontium tissue complex participating in the support of the tooth. The periodontal ligament contains specialized connective tissue fibers that attach the mineralized tissue covering the root dentin (cementum) to the alveolar bone.
