Two peptides, periplanetin CC-1 (pEVNFSPNWamide), and periplanetin CC-2 (pELTFTPNWamide) have been isolated from the corpora cardiaca of the American cockroach Periplaneta americana (Scarborough et al, 1984). Both peptide hormones are cardioacceleratory peptides and show adipokinetic activity in grasshoppers and hyperglycemic activity in cockroaches. One of these peptides (CC-2) shows sequence homology with the amino-terminal portion of glucagon.
Sieklucka-Dziuba et al (1997) have reported that periplanetin CC-1 does not increase the peripheral blood glucose level in mice
