[Pinocchio cell]
This cell type has been described by Paciucci et al (1988). Large numbers of these cells appear in the peripheral blood of all patients receiving treatment with IL2. This cell is characterized by a prominent and granular prolongation with which it attaches to tumor cells and mediates tumor cell lysis. Pinocchio cells are immunologically heterogeneous and express antigens of both T-cells and NK-cells. The cells are CD3(+), express no or negligible amounts of CD19, are variably positive for CD26, and express acid phosphatase and alpha-naphthyl acetate esterase. Pinocchio cells are adherent in culture and are more cytolytic than non-adherent cells
