This second Drosophila melanogaster plexin (gene: CG17245) has been identified by Winberg et al (1998). Plexin-B required for motor and CNS axon pathfinding, physically associates with plexin-A, and is a receptor for the secreted semaphorin Semaphorin 2a (Ayoob et al, 2006). Flies lacking expression of Plexin-B have guidance defects where motor axons fail to defasciculate properly to innervate wing muscle. These defects are similar to defects observed in flies lacking expression of Plexin-A (Ayoob et al, 2006). Neufeld et al (2011) have shown that Plexin-B is not required for proper axon guidance
