Preimplantation factor

abbr. PIF (a term with multiple meanings). This peptide (MVRIKPGSANKPSDD; Met-Val-Arg-Ile-Lys-Pro-Gly-Ser-Ala-Asn-Lys-Pro-Ser-Asp-Asp) is detected in the circulation of several species of pregnant mammals, and expressed in the placenta (Barnea et al, 1994; Roussev et al, 1995; Barnea et al, 2004). The peptide is secreted by viable embryos. Expression of the preimplantation factor begins at the two-cell stage and persists throughout viable pregnancy (Roussev et al, 1996). is absent in non-viable embryos, and predicts subsequent pregnancy loss (Coulam et al, 1995). Levels of the peptide in culture correlate with embryo viability (Stamatkin et al, 2011, 2011). Synthetic preimplantation factor also promotes first trimester cultured trophoblast ... ... ... ... ...
