Prodynorphin, known also as Proenkephalin-B (hence an older gene designation: PENKB) or Beta-neoendorphin-dynorphin, is encoded by the PDYN gene and is the precursor of several opioid neuropeptides (Kakidani et al, 1982; for overview of gene structure see also: Horikawa et al, 1983). Collectively, Prodynorphin-derived peptides are frequently being referred to as dynorphins. The Prodynorphin gene also contains three embedded copies of Leu-Enkephalin (Zamir et al, 1983; Horikawa S et al, 1983), which correspond to human prodynorphin(175-179), prodynorphin(207-211), prodynorphin(226-230) (compare also:
