[Fv binding protein; Fv fragment binding protein] Protein Fv (abbr. also pFv), previously called protein F, is an acidic sialoprotein (175 kDa) that dissociates into 85 kDa monomers during SDS-PAGE. It is present in normal liver and is released in the intestinal tract in a significant percentage of patients with viral hepatitis. Protein Fv binds to Ig from various mammalian and nonmammalian species. It binds the variable domain of heavy chains (VH), irrespective of Ig class, subclass, allotype, and light (L) chain type and can thus augment antibody-dependent immune functions (Bouvet et al, 1990, 1991; Silverman et al, 1995, 1996).
