This term refers to an enzymic activity of mammalian tissues that cleaves the synthetic substrate, Pz-Pro-Leu -Gly-Pro-D-Arg, which was designed for the collagenase of Clostridium histolyticum (Morales and Woessner, 1977; Barrett et al, 1989).
Tisljar and Barrett (1990) have purified Pz-peptidase from rat testis and rabbit skeletal muscle. Barrett and Tisljar have stated that this enzyme is identical with EC3.4.24.15 (endopeptidase 24.15) and also with endo-oligopeptidase A (Camargo et al, 1985; Tisljar et al, 1989) (for discussion see also: Camargo et al, 1991; Barret and Tisljar, 1989). Barrett (1991) has recommended the name Thimet oligopeptidase for these enzymes.
