[Ra-reactive factor p28A] This protein, found in sera of nonimmune mice never stimulated with exogenous Ra antigen (a rough variant of LPS), is a complement-dependent bactericidal factor that acts specifically on Ra chemotype strains of Salmonella (Kawakami et al, 1982). Kuge et al (1992) have cloned the cDNA.
Ra-reactive factor proteins, which is produced by hepatocytes, is composed of a component that binds polysaccharide (two 28 kDa polypeptides, P28a and P28b), and a component that is presumably responsible for complement activation.
