Ranacyclin E is a cyclic peptide of 17 amino acids (SAPRGCWTKSYPPKPCK) isolated from Rana esculenta frog skin secretions. Ranacyclin T (GALRGCWTKSYPPKPCK) is a cyclic peptide of 17 amino acids identified by screening a cDNA library from Rana temporaria (Mangoni et al, 2003). Ranacyclins have a loop region that is homologous with that of an 18-mer peptide, peptide leucine arginine, isolated from the skin of the Northern Leopard frog. Mangoni et al (2003) have shown that ranacyclins and pLR have antimicrobial and antifungal activity but differ in their activity spectra.
