abbr. RAI (a term with multiple meanings). This inhibitor is known also as RAI [placental ribonuclease inhibitor] (Lee and Vallee, 1993). The approved gene symbol is RNH1 [ribonuclease/angiogenin inhibitor 1]; abbr also RNH [ribonuclease/angiogenin inhibitor].
The human gene maps to chromosome 11p15.5 (Weremowicz et al, 1990). This inhibitor (460 amino acids) binds to ribonucleases and keeps them in a latent form (Lee et al, 1988). It has been implicated in the control of mRNA turnover and may play a role also in the regulation of the angiogenesis factor angiogenin. Human angiogenin
