[Sal-like-4]; abbr. also HSAL4 for the human gene. In databanks this protein, which contains many zinc finger motifs, is being referred to also as ZNF797 [Zinc finger protein 797]. The factor is also being referred to as Spalt-Like Transcription Factor 1. Human and mouse tissues express three SALL4 isoforms, termed SALL4A, SALL4B, SALL4C, which may act as homodimers or heterodimers and play differential roles during development (Ma et al, 2006; Rao et al, 2010; Uez et al, 2008).
