[Single C motif-1] A cDNA clone isolated from human peripheral blood mononuclear cells stimulated with PHA. Expression of SCM-1 is induced strongly also in Jurkat T-cells by PHA stimulation. SCM-1 is expressed most strongly in spleen.
SCM-1 is significantly related to the CC-Chemokines and the CXC-Chemokines but has only the 2nd and the 4th of the four cysteines conserved in these proteins. The SCM-1 gene maps to human chromosome 1. In humans, there are two highly homologous SCM-1 genes encoding SCM-1-alpha and SCM-1-beta with two amino acid substitutions.
