SIG family of cytokines

[small inducible gene(s)] General term for a number of genes that constitute the family of chemotactic cytokines known as Chemokines (Kawahara and Deuel, 1989; Brown et al, 1989). These genes are normally not expressed in normal cells. Their expression is induced after cell activation by a number of cytokines involved in inflammatory processes or wound healing.
