Fibroblast growth factor binding protein-3 |

[superinducible protein 24 kDa] Liu and Nilsen-Hamilton (1995) have identified Lipocalin-2 as the gene product of the murine SIP24 gene, which is a secreted inducible protein produced by quiescent Balb/c 3T3 cells in response to serum, bFGF, prostaglandin F2 alpha, phorbol esters, and dexamethasone (Nilsen-Hamilton et al, 1982). The term 'superinducible" refers to the observation that the expression of this protein can be induced further in a synergistic manner with growth factors if the cells are pretreated with the protein synthesis inhibitor cycloheximide.
