Sentrin (101 amino acids, called also Sentrin-1) was isolated in a yeast two-hybrid system as one of several proteins containing a death domain and participating in cell death signaling. Sentrin interacts with APO-1 and the type 1 TNF receptor but not with FADD or CD40. It associates only with the signal-competent forms of APO-1 or TNF receptor-1 death domains (Okura et al, 1996, who referred to this protein as SMT3H3 [SMT homolog 3]).
