Signalphagy

This term, coined by Belaid et al (2013), refers to a process of autophagy (macroautophagy) involved in the degradation of active signaling proteins. This process is thought to provide a safeguard mechanism that limits signaling in a spatially and temporally restricted manner to control cell proliferation, migration, and genome stability. Signalphagy has been shown to affect RhoA, which is a component of many different signal transduction pathways, including a pathway critical for cancer progression (Belaid et al, 2013, 2014).

Gao et al (2010) have reported that Signalphagy also negatively regulates Wnt signalling by promoting degradation of dishevelled, showing that a reverse correlation between dishevelled expression and autophagy is observed in late stages of colon cancer development, and suggesting that ... ... ... ... ...
