This peptide, ACSSSPSKHCG, has been identified by phage display library screening for peptides that penetrate mouse skin (Chen et al, 2006). The peptide facilitates efficient transdermal protein drug delivery through intact skin. Coadministration of the peptide and insulin to the abdominal skin of diabetic rats results in elevated systemic levels of insulin and suppresses serum glucose levels for at least 11 hours. Topical co-administration of growth hormone and TD-1 peptide achieves significant systemic bioavailability of human growth hormone.
