[Toll-like receptor-19] TLR19 is a toll-like receptor found in fish only (Palti, 2011). This receptor, like other toll-like receptors, probably plays a role in innate immunity by acting as a pattern recognition receptor.
TLR19 expression has been shown to be upregulated, significantly in the skin and gill, but downregulated in the head kidney and spleen in channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) after infection with Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Zhao F et al, 2013).
Lee et al (2014) have reported that salmon TLR19 is localised preferentially to the intracellular compartment. Salmon TLR19 is expressed mainly in immune related organs, such as spleen, head kidney and gills. Infectious salmon anaemia virus infection, in vivo, up-regulates TLR19 in posterior kidney in rainbow trout
