[Toll-like receptor-21] TLR21 is a toll-like receptor found in fish (Palti, 2011). Baoprasertkul et al (2007) have cloned catfish TLR21. TLR21 is common to birds, amphibians and fish and is not found in humans (Oshiumi et al, 2008). TLR21 displays similarity with mouse TLR13 (Keestra et al, 2010). Ishii et al (2007) have reported TLR21 in Xenopus tropicalis.
This receptor, like other toll-like receptors, plays a role in innate immunity by acting as a pattern recognition receptor. Brownlie et al (2009) have reported that TLR21 acts as a functional homolog to mammalian TLR9
