(approved gene symbol) [transmembrane protein 45A] TMEM45A is a membrane protein of unknown function. Databank synonyms for this protein are DERP7 [Dermal papilla-derived protein 7] and DNAPTP4 [DNA polymerase-transactivated protein 4].
The protein probably plays a role in cell death by apoptosis and in cancer development. Lee et al (2012) have implicated TMEM45A in the progression of ductal carcinoma in situ to invasive breast cancer, showing that progression of xenografts to invasive breast cancer is increased dramatically by suppressing TMEM45A expression. Flamant et al (2012) have reported that TMEM45A is essential to mediate the hypoxia-induced protection of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer
