[Trappin ovine molecule] This term refers to the ovine ortholog of human elafin, an antiprotease and important modulator of inflammation in humans. Brown et al (2004) have reported that ovine elafin is an acute phase reactant that acts as an "alarm" antiprotease and that overexpression in a lung-derived epithelial cell line has a protective effect against the enzymes human and porcine neutrophil pancreatic elastase.
