[TNF-receptor associated factor domain] This protein domain of approximately 180 amino acids is characteristic of all members of a group of signaling molecules designated TRAF, which are involved in signaling through the TNF receptor. All TRAF proteins share a common stretch of amino acids at their carboxyl terminus (Cao et al, 1996). The TRAF domain is involved in self-association and is required for the binding of TRAF proteins to their associated receptors (Nakano et al, 1995). See also: MATH domain.
