abbr. TRAIL-R4. This human receptor (386 amino acids) for the cytotoxic ligand TRAIL belongs to the TNF receptor superfamily. The receptor shows widespread tissue expression. The gene maps to human chromosome 8p22-21, clustered with three other TRAIL receptors.
This receptor contains a truncated death domain and functions as an inhibitory TRAIL receptor. Transient overexpression of this receptor in cells normally sensitive to TRAIL mediated killing confers complete protection. The receptor is referred to also as DcR-2 [Decoy receptor-2].
