[tripartite motif containing 3; Tripartite motif-containing protein 3] This protein, a member of a large family of proteins containing a tripartite motif, is being referred to also as RNF22 [RING finger protein 22] (El-Husseini et al, 2001) (RNF97 [RING finger protein 97] in some databanks) and has been identified as a brain-enriched RING finger protein termed BERP [brain-expressed RING finger protein] (El-Husseini and Vincent, 1999).
El-Husseini et al (2000) have identified TRIM3 as a protein that binds alpha-actinin-4 and may anchor class V myosins to particular cell domains
