[Tc1 cell]
These cells, also: T cytotoxic 1 cells, constitute a subpopulation of CD8(+) cytotoxic T-cells. They are characterized by a specific pattern of secreted factors. Like Th1 cells, Tc1 cells secrete IFN-gamma but no IL4, which distinguishes them from another subpopulation, Tc2 cells (Vukmanovic-Stejic et al, 2000). Such cells also produce IL2 and TNF-alpha (Austin et al, 1999). IL4 has been shown to inhibit the ability of differentiated Tc1 cells to synthesize IL2 (Sad and Mosmann, 1995) and to downregulate cytokine synthesis, proliferation, and long-term cytotoxicity (Sad and Mosmann, 1995, 1997)
