[testis expressed scavenger receptor] Sarraj et al (2005) have identified Tesr as a scavenger receptor gene expressed differentially in the male vs. female embryonic gonad. It is expressed in both the ovary and the testes postnatally and is observed in Sertoli cells, spermatogonia, spermatocytes, round spermatids, and in a subset of interstitial cells. Expression is seen in embryonic mouse sites other than the testis, such as in brain, eye, head, heart, neural arch, and cartilage primordium. Tesr is the same as Scara5 [Scavenger receptor class A member 5].
