Thanatin

An inducible insect (Podisus maculiventris) peptide of 21 amino acids (GSKKPVPIIYCNRRTGKCQRM) related to antimicrobial peptides such as brevinins, protegrins, and tachyplesins and probably playing a role in insect innate immunity (Mandard et al, 1998). The peptide has a broad range of activity against bacteria and fungi at physiological concentrations (Fehlbaum et al, 1996), and is active against multidrug resistant clinical isolates of Enterobacter aerogenes and Klebsiella pneumoniae (Pages et al, 2003).

A-thanatin is a C-terminally amidated thanatin analog effective against clinical isolates of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (Hou Z et al, 2011).
