These cells are stromal cells forming a layer outside the developing ovarian follicle (for overview see also: Young and McNeilly, 2010). The cells are separated from the layer of granulosa cells by a membrane. The theca cells first become identifiable in preantral follicles after the granulosa cells begin to divide. Theca cells and Granulosa cells influence each other in terms of morphology, structure, growth, and function. Theca cells produce mostly androgens, which the granulosa cells convert into estrogens under the influence of follicle-stimulating hormone (Magoffin et al, 2005). Small luteal cells
