[clear cells of Toker] These cells are intra-epidermal clear cells with bland nuclear features described originally by Toker (1970) in a fraction of normal nipples. These cells are a common benign anomaly and also occur outside the normal nipple epidermis (Willman et al, 2003, 2005).
The cells express cytokeratin-7 (Lundquist et al, 1999) and various mucins (Kuan et al, 2001). Based on morphological and immunohistochemical features, it has been suggested that these cells are probably precursors of Paget cell carcinoma cells (Marucci et al, 2002; Manavi et al, 2002; Willman et al, 2005).
