This transmembrane receptor from Drosophila melanogaster has been identified by Tauszig et al (2000). The receptor is related to Toll. It is encoded by gene CG8595. The receptor is expressed at high levels during embryogenesis and molting, suggesting that it performs developmental functions.
Yagi et al (2010) have reported that knock-out flies lacking expression of Toll-7 are viable, fertile, and have no detectable defect in the inducible expression of antimicrobial peptide genes. Double mutants lacking Toll-7 and Toll-8 show increased lethality.
Nakamoto et al (2012) have reported that Toll-7 is a pattern recognition receptor in the fly
