This peptide, GWTLNSAGYLLGKINLKALAALAKKILamide, is a chimeric peptide composed of the first 12 amino acids of the neuropeptide galanin (galanin(1-12); GWTLNSAGYLLG) in the N-terminus and the wasp venom peptide toxin mastoparan in the C-terminus, connected by a lysine residue. Originally termed Galparan and renamed Transportan by Pooga et al (1998), the galanin moiety of this peptide is the smallest highly active galanin receptor ligand with agonist properties (Land et al, 1991).
