Uronic-Acid-rich Protein |
Urotensin |
Amelin-2 |

This inhibitor of calcium oxalate crystal nucleation and growth was isolated from human urine (Sørensen et al, 1995). Uropontin also impedes attachment of calcium oxalate crystals to cultured renal epithelial cells (Asplin et al, 1998; Shiraga et al, 1992). Uropontin is an aspartic acid-rich phosphorylated glycoprotein. It has the same N-terminal sequence as osteopontin derived from bone and is thought to be the urinary form of human osteopontin. A fragment of Osteopontin has been identified also as a macromolecular crystal growth inhibitor in human urine.
