VAP2

[vascular apoptosis-inducing protein-2] This acidic protein (55 kDa) has been identified in Crotalus atrox hemorrhagic snake venom (Masuda et al, 1998). VAP2 induces cell death by apoptosis in cultured vascular endothelial cells and this activity appears to be specific for endothelial cells. The protein is related to another apoptosis-inducing protein found in snake venom, VAP1, and both proteins show similarity to members of the metalloprotease/disintegrin family.
