[VEGF-A111b] [Vascular endothelial growth factor-111b] This variant of VEGF-A, which lacks exons 5 to 8A but retains exon 8B, has been described by Gu et al (2013). Its expression has been found to be induced in ovarian cancer cells by mitomycin C and is not detected in untreated cells. VEGF-111b overexpression inhibits proliferation, migration and tube formation of endothelial cell by inhibiting VEGFR2 phosphorylation and its downstream signaling. The anti-angiogenic activity of VEGF-111b is similar but slightly lower than that of VEGF-165b
