[Vascular endothelial growth factor-165b] Another designation is VEGF-A165b [Vascular endothelial growth factor A165b]. The terms VEGF(xxx)b and VEGF(xxx) refer to splice isoforms of VEGF (VEGF-A). VEGF-165b is an isoform of VEGF-165 (the most common form of VEGF in tissues) that lacks sequences from exon 8a. Unlike VEGF-165, which promotes angiogenesis, VEGF-165b is considered an anti-angiogenic splice isoform (Qiu et al, 2009).
