[Ebola viral protein 35] This protein is encoded in the genome of Ebolavirus, which causes severe hemorrhagic fever in both humans and nonhuman primates, with fatality up to 90 %. It is one of the proteins essential for virus replication (Mühlberger et al, 1999). The protein has been shown to function as an antagonist of type 1 interferons and may be an important determinant of Ebola virus virulence in vivo (Basler et al, 2000).
