VPRH
[Vibrio proteolyticus hemolysin] This pore-forming protein is a secreted hemolysin virulence factor produced by the Gram-negative marine bacterium Vibrio proteolyticus (Ray et al, 2016). Cohen H et al (2020) have reported that VPRH induces a two-step cell death in macrophages. The first, a rapid step, is mediated by activating the NLRP3 inflammasome, leading to caspase-1 activation that results in IL1-beta secretion and cell death by pyroptosis. The second step does not depend on the inflammasome, but the mechanism remains unknown. The protein also causes cell lysis of human epithelial HeLa cells.
