Vaccinia virus H5R protein

[vaccinia virus H5 protein] This protein is encoded in the genome of Vaccinia virus. The protein is constitutively expressed during viral replication, localized in viral factories and packaged into virions (Rosel et al, 1986). Vaccinia virus H5R protein binds both DNA and RNA and has been identified as Vaccinia virus late transcription factor 4 (Kovacs and Moss, 1996). Vaccinia virus H5R protein is a multifunctional protein involved in postreplicative transcription, late transcription termination, viral DNA replication, and early morphogenesis (for overview see: D'Costa et al, 2010).

Webb et al (2006) have reported that the viral protein blocks antigen presentation mediated by CD1d1 in NKT-cells and thus contributes to immune evasion.
