[Vaccinia virus N2L protein] This protein is encoded in the genome of Vaccinia virus and acts as a virulence factor and participates in immune evasion. Vaccinia virus N2 protein is a nuclear protein that is expressed early during infection and inhibits the activation of the interferon regulatory factor IRF3. A mutant virus lacking the gene shows normal replication and spread in cultured cells but is attenuated in two murine models of infection.
