Valproic acid
[2-Propylpentanoic acid] abbr. VPA. The short-chain fatty acid Valproic acid is an inhibitor of Histone deacetylase (Phiel et al, 2001; Gurvitch et al, 2004, Göttlicher et al, 2001). It can induce cellular differentiation (Gurvitch et al, 2004, Göttlicher et al, 2001). It has been shown to inhibit proliferation and to induce cell death by apoptosis in acute myeloid leukemia cells (Tang et al, 2004; Göttlicher et al, 2001), blocks proliferation of endometrial cells (Takai et al, 2004), glioma cells (Bacon et al, 2002), breast cancer cells (Mongan and Gudas, 2005), sensitizes melanoma cells
