[Wnt family member 16; wingless-type MMTV integration site family member 16] Wnt-16 is a member of the Wnt family of structurally related genes that encode secreted extracellular signaling factors and has been identified by McWhirter et al (1999). Wnt-16 encodes a secreted protein of 365 amino acids. The gene is expressed in brain and placenta and also in peripheral lymphoid organs including spleen, lymph node, and appendix, but not bone marrow.
Fear et al (2000) have identified Wnt-16a [wingless-type MMTV integration site family member 16a] and Wnt-16b [wingless-type MMTV integration site family member 16b] as isoforms differing in the composition of their 5'-UTR and first exons
