This biochemically uncharacterized factor of approximately 43 and 65 kDa is found in the conditioned medium of Yam 1B-cells, a human B-lymphoblastoid cell line derived from the peripheral blood of an adult T-cell leukemia patient.
The factor suppresses blastogenesis and antibody formation by human lymphocytes. The factor also inhibits the expression of transferrin receptor, but not the expression of IL2 receptors or the production of IL2 by lymphocytes stimulated with phytohemagglutin. The factor also inhibits DNA synthesis by human T-cells and B-lymphocytes
