The approved gene symbol is CHI3L3 [chitinase 3-like-3]. The protein is being referred to also as Chil3 [Chitinase-like protein 3]. For a closely related factor (91% identity between Ym1 and Ym2) see: YM2. Many studies do not specifically differentiate between these two closely related factorsa and refer to these proteins collectively as Ym1/2. A closely related human protein belong to the same protein family is CHI3L1 [chitinase 3-like-1].
